I’ve been in advertising for over a decade now – this site serves as a much better resumé than any sheet of paper could do. If anybody’s offering, i’m listening – not that i’m not happy with my current gig – but i’m always open to the idea of bigger, better things. So if that’s you, or you’re simply looking to commission a piece – here’s my email – gutterpark@att.net
you can see/read/hear more work at gutterpark.com
Hey there,
I quite like your art, especially your the girl on the piano.
I’m looking for tattoos to get, piano-related. Would you mind if I considered your art as a design?
Cheers,
Kim
certainly not. i would be honored.
send me picture if you do. thanks.

Hey Jason,
I spoke with you a longggg time ago. I’ve been unnaturally obsessed with your suicide butterfly picture and finally made the jump last night to make it official. I wanted to send you a picture, but couldn’t find the emails we exchanged so long ago.
Anyways, here’s the pic. Keep up the good work.
Jes
love it. thanks for the link.
No thank you sir 🙂
I am, like so many others, in love with ‘Flowers in the Attic’. It is, hands down, the most beautiful illustration I have ever seen. I was hoping to learn more about it. Is it in reference to the book? Was it an advertisement? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the kind words. It’s not exactly a reference to the book. Honestly, i’m not all that familiar with the book. Saw the film when i was younger but that’s about it. However, i always felt the title was a good metaphor (intended or not) for ideas growing in the mind even when they may not be wanted (or cultivated, to keep the metaphor alive). The idea behind my FITA was that creative energy just happens for many people and that energy needs an outlet or it will force one – hence my depiction of suicide – i thought something so desperate, illustrated the dire necessity i was trying to capture. I don’t condone suicide at all. So i guess the butterflies would be the need to create and the gun just depicts the strength of that need. But you know – it’s all open to interpretation.
I designed it in 2003 and submitted it threadless soon after – it blew up fairly quickly and has opened many doors for me and my career. It’s often ripped off and always mistaken for a Banksy piece – but that’s okay, what better company?
Thanks again,
– jbn
Thanks for that! Your description only makes FITA more beautiful to me. I’m thinking maybe i could use it as a tattoo with your permission? It is just too amazing to keep on a computer screen forever. ❤
On the old site, forever back, there was a painting I believe you called Divergent Mary, if my mind serves me. I want it… Do you still have it, has it been sold, can I buy a copy, or the OG if it for sale? Let me know
Also mic chuck =]
Hmmm, Divergent Mary? I have a painting called Mind-machine Mary but i guess that’s not it.
Every print it still up on the old site. Can you describe the piece in question?
And mic chuck was just created as a shirt for threadless.com – no print for that one.
Thanks for your interest.
It was a painting of a Woman in a jacket and a sun with many colors in it behind her, the sun had a face, and I am now thinking that it wasnt you that painted it =] so maybe I am mistakes. Sorry for the confusion, but I am so lost, I cant find anything on the painting, although I was very young the last time I saw it, maybe 17. Anywhos thank you for the reply, and sorry I am such a fool =]
HI!!
I got “Flowers in the attic” some time ago, love it!!! I really like the one called “Stay” and I’m interested on getting it but I’ve seen it is sold out. just wanted to know if you will have more avaliable.
Thanks for your help!!
Inés.
Someone posted a picture of an old magazine in which something like Flowers in the Attic was featured. Do you know which magazine this might have been, and where I might find it?
if you can email me a link or photo of the magazine, i might be able to help – otherwise, i’m not sure – it’s been featured in a small handful.
When I found FITA it was called “This Life”. It was posted on some image board back in 2003 or 2004. I never could find out the artist, probably because of the re-name. Anyway, I have her inked on my leg w/the butterflies wrapped around in a spiral. One of these years I’ll take/send a photo for your voluminous collection of FITA tats. Thanks for one of my favorite tats.
Have you ever had an exhibit, or thought of maybe doing one in New York?
I don’t make the effort to get my work into galleries as much as i once did. I probably should. My studio is attached to a gallery (which i help run) here in my hometown – and i show there quite a bit. But nowadays, most of my creative efforts go towards commercial work, illustrations and such – and i don’t display that work very often. But anyhoo… if you know of any new york galleries looking to show my work, i’d be more than happy to oblige. Thanks for your interest. – jbn
I want to see an exhibit of yours so badly that I would dedicate time to find a gallery that would show your work!
Enough of the stuffy galleries, we need a little flair!
Hello J.B.N.,
I wrote you asking if you’d be interested in being interviewed a few months ago, still waiting to hear back. I finally got my own tee of Flowers in the Attic. Had to wait for the reprint then had to wait for some disposable income. Worth the wait.

Did you create seriographs, signed, of flowers in the attic?
this is a old page i found that vc andrews wrote-

I could never afford the painting, I saw the movie and never read the book either,, It would look cool on a black hooded sweatshirt with a zipper. thank u kindly.
I do sell prints – off my gutterpark.com site – the first edition, which was signed and numbered sold out years ago. The current edition is open and slightly different than the original; they’re signed as well. As far as the book/movie connection, there is none other than i always felt the name was a good metaphor for the ideas (good & bad) that grow in one’s head when not tended to.
Hey Jason,
I have to say, I’ve been a huge fan of yours since I was a teenager! And yes, like everyone else I really like Flower in the Attic, I totally get that feeling of desperation to get an idea out of your head sometimes.. But my favorite has always been Early November (http://www.gutterpark.com/earlynovember.jpg) it just makes me laughs and I really wish I was more like the person she seems to be! The thing is I can’t seem to find a shirt or print or anything in any of your shops 😦 I even searched cafepress and zazzle just in case but found nothing. Is it possible to get a shirt or print of that anywhere or must I suffice with having it as my computer background until I finally breakdown and get it tattooed on me? Lol
Also, my second favorite is Fairy Dust and I saw pictures of shirts on Threadess but I can’t figure out how to buy one :(. Am I just having a blonde moment?
Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words, Claire.
No blonde moment, although i submitted fairy dust to threadless, they never printed it. You can, however, purchase a print of it (as well as other items) at society6.com. This link should work – http://society6.com/jbyron/Fairy-Dust_Print ,if not, just put in “jason byron nelson” into the search field and you’ll find it.
As for the Early November design… that’s an old one. I originally did that for the band by the same name – not sure if they’re around anymore – i think they ended up using the horse but not the girl. Anyway, I’ll see if i can dig up the design. If so, I can get you a price on having it printed if you like. Nowadays, a one-off digital print isn’t too expensive. I’ll be in touch. And thanks again. – jbn
